iamexcited

With our November date just around the corner we thought we'd keep you interested with a chunky biography of our guest (so far)...

Co Owner of the Mighty Robot Recordings and Autodiscotheque record labels, Scotland's iamelectron (aka Dave Bowie) has had a love of synths and drum machines since his early teens. An ever expanding vinyl collection led to him kicking off his DJ'ing career in the late 80's/early 90's playing an eclectic mix of New Beat, 'Balearic' sounds, Chicago House and early techno at riotous house parties and clubs in the East of Scotland.

A desire to 'do it somewhere else' led to a move to Toronto in the mid 90's where iamelectron joined up with the Switch Records and Blue organisations. Along with Himadri (aka Teste), Jeremy Caulfield (Dumb-Unit), Adam Marshall (Nu Kanada) and Jeff Milligan (Revolver) the group gigged across North America at an exciting time when Canada's electronic music scene was beginning to evolve and gain recognition from the rest of the world. iamelectron's first experience in live radio happened at this time too when he became the co-host of the Switch Radio Show on Toronto's CKLN 88.1:

"There's nothing better than playing records through North American FM compression - a truly unique sound. I used the show to push the early Bunker/Interr-ferenc/Reference records that I was getting shipped from the UK, and the resurgence of British/Euro electro. It was a great experience and a superb chance to promote a sound that I was (and still am) extremely passionate about."

After returning to Scotland, iamelectron co ran the M*A*R*S, Magic Mix and Computer Love nights before going it alone in 1998 with Electron (hence the DJ name) in Dundee, pushing electro sounds with regular monthly support from Andrew Weatherall and weekly guests like Keith Tucker (Puzzlebox) and SCSI AV's Daz Quale.

A meeting of minds in 2003 led to the birth of Mighty Robot Recordings, a label that's received major props from I-F, Rob Da Bank (the second Ra-X 'Opium Den' installment was given an exclusive Radio 1 live session), Weatherall, Dave Clarke, JD Twitch, Laurent Garnier, Vice Magazine and a host of key underground DJs. Artist like the aforementioned Ra-X, Rude 66, Sneak Thief, Freak Electrique, Gladio/Legowelt, English Electric, Imatran Voima, Glasgow's Dirty Hospital and Chicago's Junior Rafael have all appeared on the label and after ten releases it's built a dedicated fan base.

Autodisco was launched in 2007 with Barry 'Dicky Trisco' Reeves (Deep Freeze Recordings/Disco Deviance) as an outlet for the two artists to share their love of disco, electrofunk and house. Now into its second year the night has become a great success with an impressive list of past and future guests. It's also led to studio productions - as the Autodisco DJs - and yet another record label - Autodiscotheque. This year saw the Autodisco DJs join the Rizla Invisible Players at Rockness and East Village as well as gigs across Europe, and from 2009 Autodisco will open for business in London with two new members; Richard Sen and Pete Herbert.

iamelectron's DJ'ing style is heavily influenced by the Hot Mix 5 and their tight, fast mixing technique. Expect everything from early 80's disco, italo, Chicago jack tracks, techno, Dutch electro(nix), 'nu' stuff and a bit of synth pop thrown in for good measure.

So there you have it! Here are a couple of mixes for you to digest as well.
